There’s no shortage of AI image generators today, including Stable Diffusion, Midjourney, etc. Even WhatsApp now offers AI-powered sticker creation. DALL·E, which once rivaled Midjourney, seemed to be fading away. But a recent update by OpenAI might just thrust DALL·E back into the spotlight.

Understanding DALL·E 3

DALL·E 3 is the newest iteration of OpenAI’s art creation tool. It showcases advanced capabilities in producing images that closely match the given text. Compared to its earlier version, DALL·E 2, the latest DALL·E 3 offers notable enhancements, even when using the same prompts.

DALL·E 3 in ChatGPT

DALL·E 3 is integrated natively with ChatGPT. This allows you to simply describe to ChatGPT the image you envision, be it a brief idea or a detailed description. ChatGPT will then instruct DALL·E 3 to craft that image. If the result isn’t quite right, you can specify the adjustments to ChatGPT, and it will fine-tune the image accordingly.

As of late October 2023, DALL·E 3 is accessible to ChatGPT Plus and Enterprise users. Just like with DALL·E 2, any images you make with DALL·E 3 are yours. You can use, sell, or print them without asking us for permission.

How to Use DALL·E 3 in ChatGPT

To start with DALL·E 3, sign in to ChatGPT, begin a new chat, hover over GPT-4, and pick DALL·E 3 from the drop-down list.

Selecting DALL·E 3 from dropdown menu

Making images with DALL·E 3 in ChatGPT is easy. Just tell ChatGPT what you want, and, similar to Midjourney, you’ll get 4 image options to pick from.

For example, I tried asking for a “realistic photo of Uranus“, pressed enter, and here’s what I received.

Four AI-generated images of Uranus

If you like any of the AI-generated images, hover over that image and click the download icon at the top right to save it to your computer. Unless you specify a size and resolution, the image will be square (1:1 ratio) and 1024×1024 pixels in size.

Click here to view a full-sized image.

Revising Created Images

What sets this apart from Midjourney is the ability to give more instructions for a chosen image. For instance, I asked it to “Add more stars behind image1,” and DALL·E modified the image accordingly. Here’s the result:

AI-modified image with added stars
Upscaling Images

You can also ask it to upscale an image. An upscaled image will measure 1792×1024 pixels.

Upscaling to 4K

I tried asking ChatGPT to enlarge an image to 4K resolution, but the result was still 1792×1024 pixels. It seems that’s the highest resolution available for now.

Attempt to upscale image to 4K resolution
Including Multiple Instructions in One Prompt

You can give multiple instructions at once. For instance, I asked it to “Upscale Image 1 and add the word ‘Uranus’ in the center,” and it did just that.

Zooming Out of Images

You can direct it to zoom out from a particular image.

Zoomed-out AI-generated image

If the initial zoom-out isn’t enough, you can ask it to zoom out even more.

Further zoomed-out AI-generated image
Additional Adjustment Prompts

If you’re curious about other adjustments or commands you can give, just ask ChatGPT. I asked, “What are some examples of adjustments I can make?” and ChatGPT provided a list of ways to tweak the AI-generated images.

Reviewing Image Prompts

Lastly, if you click on any image (not the top-left download icon), it will display the exact prompt used to create that image.

Final Thoughts

DALL·E combined with ChatGPT produces impressive images, especially drawings and artworks. However, I personally feel that Midjourney creates slightly superior images.

What sets the ChatGPT and DALL·E combination apart is the ability to easily modify the images with further instructions.

If you’re a ChatGPT Plus or Enterprise user, I highly recommend giving it a shot.

How to Turn Off and Delete YouTube Watch History https://www.hongkiat.com/blog/delete-youtube-history/ Thu, 21 Sep 2023 13:01:45 +0000 https://www.hongkiat.com/blog/?p=69447 Turn off and clear your YouTube history for a cleaner homepage view.

The post How to Turn Off and Delete YouTube Watch History appeared first on Hongkiat.

]]>
Google recently announced a new feature that can improve your YouTube experience. By turning off your YouTube watch history, you can make the main page – also known as the homepage – cleaner, simpler, and easier to navigate.

YouTube homepage screenshot

If you find that your homepage is often cluttered with videos that don’t interest you or are from channels you haven’t subscribed to, this could be a beneficial change for you.

It’s worth noting that these updates will be gradually implemented over the coming weeks or months. So, you might not see the changes immediately.

The process for disabling your watch history is straightforward and nearly identical whether you’re using YouTube on the web or on a mobile device. To turn off your YouTube history, simply follow the steps provided.

Pausing Your YouTube History

Follow these simple steps to pause your YouTube watch history:

  1. Open the YouTube app and tap on your profile image in the upper right corner, then choose “Your data in YouTube.”
  2. Profile image and Your data in YouTube option
  3. Scroll down until you find “YouTube Watch History.” (You’ll likely see a checked circle next to it, indicating it’s active.) Tap on the arrow next to it to turn if off, or pause it.
  4. YouTube Watch History section
  5. You’ll be directed to the “Activity controls” page. Scroll down to “YouTube History” and tap on “Turn off.”
  6. Activity controls page
  7. A pop-up will appear, warning you that turning off your history will affect personalized recommendations. It will also inform you that this setting will pause history across all devices signed in to this account. Tap on “Pause” to proceed.
  8. Pause YouTube history pop-up
  9. Once you tap “Pause,” another pop-up will confirm that your YouTube history is now paused.
Resume YouTube History

To reactivate your watch history, just retrace the steps you followed earlier. When you get to the “YouTube History” section, select “Turn on.”

Delete Your YouTube History

If you want to fully refresh your YouTube experience, pausing your watch history isn’t enough. You’ll also need to delete your existing history to stop receiving recommendations based on your past activity.

Here’s how:

  1. Navigate back to “Your data in YouTube.”
  2. Scroll down to “Manage your YouTube Watch History” and select it.
  3. Manage YouTube Watch History section
  4. Look for the “Delete” link and click on it. You’ll have options such as “Delete today,” “Delete custom range,” or “Delete all time.” To completely erase your history, choose “Delete all time.”
  5. Delete options
  6. A pop-up will appear, asking you to confirm the deletion and providing examples of what will be removed.
  7. If you’re sure, click “Delete.”
  8. Another pop-up will confirm that your data is being deleted and offer a link explaining the deletion process and timeline.
  9. Deletion complete confirmation

Even after deleting your history, you may not see immediate changes in your recommendations. Google has stated that updates to YouTube’s recommendation system are being rolled out gradually over the next few months. So, it might take some time for you to notice any changes on your YouTube homepage.

Understanding VPN Protocols: How to Safeguard Your Personal Data Online https://www.hongkiat.com/blog/vpn-protocols/ https://www.hongkiat.com/blog/vpn-protocols/#comments Thu, 21 Sep 2023 07:01:54 +0000 https://www.hongkiat.com/blog/?p=15996 Safeguard your online presence with the right VPN protocol for your needs.

The post Understanding VPN Protocols: How to Safeguard Your Personal Data Online appeared first on Hongkiat.

]]>
The internet has evolved from a mere repository of information to a complex social and business platform. While this technological advancement has made life easier, it has also compromised our privacy.

As you navigate the web, various entities collect your personal data, such as advertisers, marketers, and analytics services, to better understand your preferences.

To illustrate the kind of personal information at risk, consider this: You’ve probably seen ads that say, “Chat with Alice. Join our network and connect with people in New York” (or your current location). Ever wondered how they knew where you were?

10 Best VPN Service Providers for 2023

10 Best VPN Service Providers for 2023

Everything is being tracked nowadays, from your activities on the internet to your phone and computer. Each click,... Read more

How Your Data Is Collected and Used

Companies gather information like your browser type, platform, IP address, search history, browsing behavior, and even your geographical location. They use this data to create detailed profiles and leverage it for their benefit.

Tracking and Stealing Data

Moreover, the internet is rife with other risks such as viruses, malware, and spam, which can compromise your system. There are also individuals who engage in unauthorized access to steal your data. Safeguarding your online identity has become a business in itself.

Protecting Personal Data with VPN

While there are various security measures like antivirus software and firewalls to protect your system, these solutions fall short when it comes to preserving your personal data online.

Web browsers offer features like Private Browsing mode (Incognito for Chrome users) and Do Not Track, but these have limitations. A VPN serves as a robust solution to such privacy concerns, effectively safeguarding your sensitive information.

What is a Virtual Private Network (VPN)?

A Virtual Private Network, or VPN, establishes an encrypted ‘tunnel’ between your computer and the VPN server. This secure tunnel ensures that your data is protected when transmitted over the public internet, safeguarding it from unauthorized users and data breaches. While the underlying technology of VPNs may seem complex, it essentially serves to prevent unauthorized access to your data and conceals your IP address to protect your online identity.

VPN Encryption Tunnel

Connecting to a VPN is as straightforward as logging into your email account. When you purchase a VPN package, the provider will supply you with a username and password, or in some cases, authentication files or certificates. You can then set up a VPN connection in your operating system, following the guidelines provided by the vendor, and log in using your credentials.

Alternatively, you may use a VPN client software, if provided by the vendor, to simplify the connection process after you’ve authenticated yourself.

Understanding VPN Security Levels

VPNs offer a variety of protocols, each with its own level of security and ease of use. Think of it like commuting to work: some people take the train, while others drive. Similarly, VPNs have different methods – known as protocols – for establishing secure tunnels.

These protocols vary in terms of platform compatibility, cost, and other features. Once you’ve decided to use a VPN, you’ll need to choose the specific VPN technology (protocol) that best suits your needs.

1. PPTP

Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP) is the most commonly used protocol. It offers relatively weak 128-bit encryption but is faster due to lower encryption overhead. PPTP is compatible with a wide range of platforms, including Windows, Mac OS X, iOS, Android, Linux, and DD-WRT routers, and doesn’t require any additional software.

Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol

PPTP is user-friendly, easily deployable, and works well with Dedicated IPs. It’s generally the most affordable protocol and is suitable for users who prioritize ease of use over high-level security.

Reasons to Choose PPTP: Wide platform support, user-friendly, and excellent mobile device compatibility.

Reasons to Avoid PPTP: Lower encryption levels result in reduced security, lack of support for alternate VPN ports, and easier to detect and block.

2. L2TP/IPSec

Layer Two Tunneling Protocol (L2TP) uses Internet Protocol Security (IPSec) for data encryption. It offers high 128-bit or 256-bit encryption and is compatible with Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android.

Layer Two Tunneling Protocol

L2TP/IPSec requires no additional software and is compatible with Dedicated IPs. It offers better security than PPTP and is ideal for those seeking higher security levels.

Reasons to Choose L2TP/IPSec: High security, better than PPTP.

Reasons to Avoid L2TP/IPSec: No support for alternate VPN ports.

3. OpenVPN

OpenVPN is the most secure VPN protocol and is effective even in places like schools and offices where other protocols are blocked. It offers robust 256-bit encryption and is generally the most expensive protocol option.

OpenVPN Protocol

OpenVPN requires its client software to be installed on your system. It is compatible with Dedicated IPs and operates on multiple ports, making it difficult to detect and block. It is the best choice for advanced users seeking high levels of anonymity and security.

Reasons to Choose OpenVPN: High security, works where other protocols are blocked, support for alternate VPN ports.

Reasons to Avoid OpenVPN: Requires software installation, may be challenging to set up on iOS and Android in some cases.

Conclusion

VPNs serve as an effective tool for safeguarding your sensitive data from unauthorized access. By encrypting your data, you achieve a higher level of anonymity and security, giving your information the protection it deserves.

Understanding AI Song Covers

AI song covers are versions of existing songs that are created using sophisticated machine learning algorithms. These algorithms analyze various elements like melody, rhythm, lyrics, and style of the original song to generate a new rendition.

This is made possible through deep learning technologies, enabling the AI to grasp the subtle nuances of the song and create a version that has human-like musical qualities.

What AI Song Cover Generators Do?

AI song cover generators come in two main forms: web-based tools and downloadable PC software. These platforms offer a variety of voice options for your cover. You can choose from voices of famous personalities, fictional characters, or even use your own voice.

They serve multiple purposes such as creating new versions of hit songs, experimenting with diverse vocal styles, and even producing original compositions based on your lyrics.

Most of these tools offer a free trial, allowing you to test their capabilities. After the trial period, you can opt for a subscription plan or a paid plan, which usually comes with additional features.

How AI Cover Songs Generator Work?

Well, AI song cover generators typically operate in the following manner:

  1. Choose a Voice: Most tools offer a range of pre-configured voices for you to choose from. Some even provide the option to upload a custom voice sample.
  2. Pick a Song: These tools usually offer a selection of well-known songs to choose from. Alternatively, some may even allow you to upload your own songs or melodies that you prefer.
  3. Adjust Settings: You can modify various settings like pitch, tempo, volume, and effects to personalize your cover.
  4. Produce and Preview: After you’ve fine-tuned the settings, you can produce the cover. Most tools include a preview feature, allowing you to ensure you’re satisfied with the end result before downloading it.

In addition to these basic features, some tools offer advanced options. These may include lyric editing, melody adjustments, and the ability to add background music or harmonies for a more sophisticated final product.

If you’re a musician, you may find it frustrating to be separated from your instrument. However, you can still satisfy your musical cravings through virtual instruments that run in your web browser.

Feeling the urge to play some music? You can try your hand at any of these 8 browser-based virtual instruments. They are perfect for those moments when you’re away from your physical instrument.

While these online instruments are not a complete substitute for high-quality hardware or software instruments, they are promising signs of what might be achievable in the realm of web-based music. Typically, these virtual platforms are more focused on synthesizers, but they still offer a ton of fun.

And who knows? We might soon see a web-based version of an electric guitar that does justice to the real thing.

1. WebSID

The Digital Nostalgia of Commodore 64

WebSID interface

If you’re a fan of 1980s culture, WebSID is sure to evoke some nostalgia. It’s a digital version of the iconic SID sound chip found in the Commodore 64.

The interface is user-friendly and intuitive, making it easy to play using your computer keyboard. The virtual keyboard also supports touch input, making it accessible on smartphones and tablets.

Moreover, WebSID features a built-in delay effect, expanding your options for sound design.

2. MZ-101

A Simple Monophonic Synthesizer

MZ-101 interface

The MZ-101 is a monophonic synthesizer, taking inspiration from the analog synths of the ’70s and ’80s like the Roland SH-101. While it may not be the most complex synthesizer, many iconic records were produced using similar equipment. The MZ-101 allows you to save and load presets, and you can even share them on Twitter.

You can interact with this synth via your computer keyboard or the virtual on-screen keys. Keep in mind that the MZ-101 relies on the Web Audio API, so it won’t work on browsers that lack this support.

3. Sympathetic Synthesizer System Mk 1

A Nod to Retro Gaming Sounds

Sympathetic Synthesizer System Mk 1 interface

The Sympathetic Synthesizer System Mk 1 offers a simple-to-use interface and evokes the iconic sounds of 1980s and early 1990s videogaming.

Unlike WebSID, it doesn’t emulate a specific synth or chip. However, its sound is distinctly reminiscent of retro videogames rather than the analog synths of the same era.

You can interact with the Sympathetic Synthesizer System Mk 1 using your computer keyboard or the virtual keys on-screen. The tool is built on the WebAudio API, so it only functions in browsers that support this API.

4. Patternsketch

Your Online Drum Machine and Audio Sequencer

Patternsketch interface

Patternsketch serves as an audio sequencer and drum machine. You can craft patterns or play the drumkit in real-time using your computer keyboard.

The platform offers a variety of drumkits, including realistic Jazz and Live sets as well as electronic and classic Roland TR-808 and TR-909 kits. It even provides some premade drum patterns for quick use.

Patternsketch allows you to save and share your creations, enabling collaborative work. You can also export your patterns in WAV, MP3, or OGG formats for offline listening, and even upload directly to SoundCloud. It is optimized for Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.

5. TrueGrid

A Sandbox for Modular Synth Enthusiasts

TrueGrid interface

TrueGrid is designed for experimental musicians and those intrigued by modular synthesizers. Unlike traditional synths, modular synthesizers don’t have a fixed signal path and consist of individual modules that can be interconnected in numerous ways.

TrueGrid is a digital version of a modular synth, letting you patch modules together for a wide range of soundscapes. While it doesn’t offer an on-screen keyboard, you can use a MIDI keyboard if you’re running Chrome.

Keep in mind that TrueGrid is still in its beta stage, so it has some limitations. There’s a restricted selection of available modules, and you can’t pick modules within the tool just yet. To configure a synth, you’ll need to register on ModularGrid and use their planner. TrueGrid performs best in Google Chrome.

6. Waveform

Wavetable-Based Synthesizer in Your Browser

Waveform interface

Waveform is a web-based synthesizer inspired by renowned wavetable VST synths. Craft your own unique soundscapes using thousands of wavetables, and easily share your presets through a URL. You can interact with Waveform using a physical keyboard, on-screen keys, or a MIDI keyboard. While Google Chrome is the recommended browser, other modern browsers should also suffice.

7. WebModular

A Simple, Vintage-Inspired Modular Synthesizer

WebModular interface

WebModular is a simpler modular synthesizer that takes cues from classic synths like the ARP 2600. Similar to TrueGrid, it allows for custom signal flows but is tailored for more conventional sounds.

You can interact using the on-screen keyboard and even employ Modern Music Macro Language (MML) to write and playback melodies, riffs, or entire songs. WebModular offers a few presets to kickstart your creativity and runs on the Web Audio API. It’s also being tested with a Javascript and Flash combination for wider browser compatibility.

8. Audiotool

A Complete Music Making Suite

Audiotool interface

Audiotool goes beyond being just a virtual instrument to offer a comprehensive music-making platform. It boasts four synthesizers and three drum machines, along with a variety of effects like distortion, reverb, and delay. The platform also features sequencing capabilities, allowing for complete song compositions.

If you prefer to simply explore the instruments, pressing Caps Lock allows you to use your computer keyboard for real-time play. Built using Flash, Audiotool is designed to run smoothly across different browsers.

If you’re a fan of doodling, the ‘Doodle‘ option is perfect for you. Simply create a doodle, and the AI will refine it, giving it a more polished and professional appearance.

The ‘Lineart‘ option allows you to draw a line art sketch, which the AI will then automatically enhance. This is ideal for intricate designs or when you want to focus on outlines.

Choosing a reference image can have a significant impact on the final outcome of your artwork, adding both depth and complexity. Whether you’re working on a portrait, landscape, or abstract piece, these options offer an extra layer of customization to meet your artistic needs.

More Options Under ‘Detail Control’

Under the Detail Control section, you can toggle the ‘Face Intelligence Enhancement‘ feature on to repair and enhance facial features in your artwork. This is especially useful for portraits and supports multiple faces.

5 Best Internal Communication Tools for Your Business (2023) https://www.hongkiat.com/blog/internal-communication-tools-business/ Tue, 12 Sep 2023 13:01:25 +0000 https://www.hongkiat.com/blog/?p=69185 Find the right internal communication tool that scales with your business and boosts productivity.

The post 5 Best Internal Communication Tools for Your Business (2023) appeared first on Hongkiat.

]]>
Work is evolving, and it’s crucial to stay relevant by equipping ourselves with the best tools. Over the past few years, internal communication software has undergone major improvements, connecting people seamlessly across various locations.

If you run a business with multiple locations or are planning to scale in the future, you might want to consider a flexible internal communication tool.

What Impact Can a Good Internal Communication Tool Have on Your Business?

As businesses increasingly adopt the hybrid work model, teams now comprise employees working both from the office and from home. An internal communication tool can bridge these communication gaps, helping everyone stay connected through audio and video meetings – just as they would if they were seated together in the same conference room.

An internal communication tool also facilitates seamless collaboration, enabling teams to exchange ideas via messages and calls. It allows employees to work simultaneously on multiple projects while also empowering administrators to take full control of their organization’s communication. This focus on communication helps businesses improve their productivity and efficiency.

What to Look for in an Internal Communication Tool?

With numerous internal communication tools available on the market, finding the right one for your business can be challenging.

To make this decision easier, here are some key features to consider:

  1. Messaging: The most fundamental feature that any internal communication tool should offer is messaging. This serves as the backbone of internal communication and helps teams interact with each other.
  2. Audio and Video Collaboration: Given the rising adoption of the hybrid work model worldwide, businesses can use internal communication tools to bring employees together remotely, fostering a sense of unity within the workforce. In this context, audio and video conferencing have become essential.
  3. Other Collaboration Features: File sharing, task management, reminders, group chats, calendars, and notes are some of the other collaboration features that an internal communication tool should offer.
  4. Scalability: Your internal communication tool should be able to adapt to your needs as your organization grows. Adding new users or purchasing additional licenses should be a straightforward process.
  5. Security Standards: Important security standards and certifications to look for include GDPR compliance, HIPAA compliance, and ISO/IEC 27001, 27017, and 27018. The internal communication tool should also feature security and privacy policies that align with your business needs.
  6. 6ntegration with Other Platforms: A well-integrated platform can save time by reducing the need to switch between apps, allowing employees to focus on crucial tasks. This contributes to increased productivity and better time management by centralizing all relevant information in one interface.
  7. Customization and Platform Capabilities: A flexible tool offers customizations to meet your specific needs. Choose a communication tool that provides white-labeling options and a platform for developing custom tools tailored to your business.
  8. Customer Support: When selecting an internal communication platform, prioritize providers with excellent customer service and reliable uptime. This ensures that you can have your issues addressed promptly and minimizes the risk of service disruptions.
  9. User-Friendliness: Regardless of how robust the software is, it should be easy to understand and navigate to facilitate smoother work processes.
  10. Alignment with Your Requirements: Ultimately, the right internal communication tool for you will depend on your business’s specific needs, budget, and workforce.

Gigapixel AI, by Topaz Labs, is one of the best image upscaling apps I’ve ever used. The interface is user-friendly and offers a reasonable range of features. Beyond just upscaling, it provides customization options to adjust your images before initiating the upscaling process. The app also has a bulk upscaling feature, which can be useful if you have multiple images to work on.

A notable feature is the preview function, which displays a side-by-side comparison of the original and upscaled images before completing the process. This is practical for determining the extent of upscaling you might want to apply and for navigating through the app’s settings.

Are Decentralized Education Platforms Better Than Their Centralized Counterparts? https://www.hongkiat.com/blog/decentralized-vs-centralized-education/ Thu, 07 Sep 2023 07:01:54 +0000 https://www.hongkiat.com/blog/?p=69133 Make an informed choice between centralized and decentralized ed-tech platforms.

The post Are Decentralized Education Platforms Better Than Their Centralized Counterparts? appeared first on Hongkiat.

]]>
Learning Management Systems (LMS), PDFs, and online text-based learning have been around since 1995, marking the dawn of educational technology (ed-tech). However, the true revolution in ed-tech began in 2008 with the advent of the first Massive Open Online Course (MOOC). The industry has expanded significantly since then.

As reported by Forbes, the ed-tech sector is expected to grow annually by 16.5% from 2022 to 2030. This suggests a booming industry, but is that really the case?

Centralized vs Decentralized Educational Systems

Historically, our education system has operateds within a centralized framework. This top-down approach often benefits those in power while widening the gap between decision-makers and those affected by these decisions, such as students and teachers.

In recent years, a new paradigm has emerged: decentralized education. This approach has been discussed in political circles for decades and focuses on upskilling and reskilling. Unlike centralized systems, decentralized education is not limited to specific institutions or organizations. It allows for a more democratic distribution of knowledge and decision-making, bridging the gap between teachers, administrators, and students.

Today, the rise of Web3 technology is further accelerating the growth of decentralized education. Various platforms like Metaschool, Studyum, and Web3 University are emerging, although they are still in their infancy.

This leads us to a crucial question: Are decentralized education platforms superior to their centralized counterparts, or is a balanced approach more effective?

Comparing Centralized and Decentralized Ed-Tech Platforms

Both centralized and decentralized ed-tech platforms have their own sets of advantages and disadvantages. Well-known centralized platforms like Chegg and Khan Academy have leveraged artificial intelligence to stand out. The key question is: which educational approach is leading the way?

This blog post evaluates centralized and decentralized platforms based on three key criteria:

1. Transparency in Education

Previous experiments with decentralized education have yielded mixed outcomes, making it challenging to form a definitive conclusion. According to the Canadian Education Association, however, decentralization promotes greater local involvement. This enhances accountability and responsiveness to student needs, thereby improving resource allocation and reducing transparency issues.

Furthermore, decentralized data management systems significantly elevate the level of transparency. Centralized systems are more susceptible to data manipulation, delays, and other issues due to inadequate oversight.

For instance, the fraudulent diploma industry, which earns an estimated $7 billion annually worldwide, thrives in centralized environments. In contrast, decentralized ed-tech platforms are not controlled by a single entity and focus on data distribution, making them more transparent and resistant to manipulation. Therefore, when it comes to transparency, decentralized ed-tech has the upper hand.

2. Engagement of Stakeholders

Increased local participation in decision-making often leads to the refinement of new ideas and better overall decisions. In educational settings, this can enhance relationships between parents and schools, as well as between students and teachers, ultimately improving learning outcomes. Decentralized education platforms, which often offer synchronous lectures, provide a more measurable way to gauge stakeholder participation.

Conversely, centralized ed-tech platforms often lack meaningful stakeholder engagement. While they may incorporate feedback at the course level, platform-wide changes are rare. In contrast, decentralized platforms like Metaschool actively note and implement user feedback across all aspects of the platform.

For instance, Metaschool operates an open-source GitHub repository where users can contribute suggestions or changes to courses and the overall platform experience. This collaborative approach is possible because no single entity controls the decision-making process, making stakeholder feedback crucial.

Therefore, when it comes to stakeholder engagement, decentralized ed-tech platforms have a clear advantage.

3. Complexity in User Experience

Ed-tech is a dynamic and intricate field that has evolved significantly over the years. The level of complexity can vary greatly depending on whether a platform is centralized or decentralized.

Centralized platforms often have complex user interfaces for several reasons. They collect extensive data through lengthy forms and primarily offer paid courses, requiring intricate financial aid forms for those who cannot afford them. Decentralized platforms like Metaschool, however, aim for a smoother user experience. For example, Metaschool only requires an email and a one-time password to access their free Web3 courses.

While decentralized platforms may evolve to become more complex as they grow, user experience remains a key factor in attracting and retaining users. Additional benefits like enhanced security and flexible curricula further position decentralized ed-tech platforms as leaders in educational innovation.

Final Thoughts

This blog concludes that decentralized ed-tech platforms offer a more consumer-centric approach compared to their centralized counterparts. This conclusion is based on an evaluation of three key parameters: transparency, stakeholder engagement, and complexity.

Each of these aspects was examined from the perspective of both centralized and decentralized ed-tech platforms.
