Four years ago, I was almost laid off from my job. Disgusted, scared, and angry at my district, I took the arduous journey of trying to figure out what to do next. After looking over my qualifications, I realized that I didn’t need to try and change careers, but I did need to learn how to take what I already had (education, experience, etc.) and make it into my brand so that I would be able to use to not only find a new job but to help teachers struggling through similar situations.
Before I go into the book, let me tell you where I am. My name is Franchesca Warren, and for fifteen years, I taught English in urban high schools in Memphis and Atlanta. Almost nine years ago, I started this blog because I was angry and mad about the disrespect I felt as a teacher. I felt I had maybe wasted my degree in college because I was barely making minimum wage.
So instead of just leaving the profession altogether ( I have a family), I decided to start this forum so that I could expose what really happens in the classroom.
My hope is that this e-book will motivate you to start thinking about your teacher expertise seriously and with purpose.
Here’s a little bit more about the book.
WHAT’S IN THIS BOOK?
The e-book has over eight essays that give you real, proven strategies to get out of the teaching “rut” we find ourselves in and realistic advice on how to not only build your empire but to be realistic along the way. All in all, this book is simple, easy to read, inexpensive, and easy to implement.
You guys will love this book.
Some of the advice has been shared before on The Educator’s Room blog, but we’ve added new content and revised many of the items in this book.
Important Things to Know about an E-book
An e-book is a book in an electronic format. This book was specifically made to read on your smartphone, iPad, computer, or other mobile devices. I would caution against printing the book because while it’s a beautiful document, it will KILL your ink supply. If you’re not bothered by the amount of ink, it’s easy to download and print for you to have forever. Please remember that if you download it, the e-book will go into your downloads folder.
TEACHER REVIEWS
“Thank you for this book. I was struggling with how to get over the hump of being a tenth-year teacher. I wanted to stay but I wasn’t sure if I could. Now that I know my area of expertise, I am staying in the classroom and working on building my TpT store based on reading!” – Reagan, 5th Grade Teacher
“I didn’t want to get this book, but I happened to get one when you guys were running a special. Needless to say, I was a critic before, but after reading this I know what I’ll do during retirement- working on a curriculum I used after 30 years in the Math Classroom. Thank you!” – Nancy, Geometry Teacher
